Wednesday wrap: Dragons beat G-C

The New Palestine girls soccer team gave head coach Dana Merrick a milestone victory tonight, beating Greenfield-Central 1-0.

Midway through the second half, New Palestine's Kalli Shepler-Tucker scored to give the Dragons the victory. It was her eighth goal of the season. The play began with a free kick by Lindsay Meyer, who fed Morgan Carpenter off the set piece. Carpenter then passed the ball to Shepler-Tucker for the goal.

Holly Hilton made three saves in the first half, and didn't see a shot on goal in the second half as the Dragon midfield and defense kept the play away from the net.

The victory was No. 200 in Merrick's career since soccer became an IHSAA-sanctioned sport in 1994. He coached NP's boys from 1994-2001 and won 76 games, and this is the 126th victory since he took over the NP girls program in 2003. Merrick also coached the NPHS boys as a club team from 1985-93.

The Dragons are now 9-0-2 and remain unbeaten in HHC play.
