Thursday roundup: NP VB wins in 4

The New Palestine volleyball team had a strong 25-11, 18-25, 25-17, 25-15 victory over Greenfield-Central Thursday night. Abby Seifert had a kill and three straight aces to end the third game. She finished the night with seven kills and five aces. Katie Morris had eight kills for the Dragons. Jamie Morris served four aces as NP had 15 aces as a team.

Khajenouri's ace in the final game broke a 12-all tie and keyed a four-point Dragon run. NP then ran off six more points on Jamie Morris' serve -- including an ace -- to make it a 23-14 game and put things away.

In the second game, NP ran off seven straight points on Seifert's serve, including two aces, but the Cougars used an eight-point run served by Amelia Shepherd to take command.Shelby Davis and Shay Pope had three kills each in the second game for G-C. Pope's 11 kills led the Cougars.


NP is now 7-2 and 2-0 in HHC play. G-C is 4-5.You can listen to the archive on www.hancockcountysports.com.

Blue River 3, Eastern Hancock 0: The Royals fell 25-18, 25-23, 25-21 to Blue River Thursday night. Courtney Kinnaman led BRV with 13 kills. EH is now 4-6 on the year. 

Boys soccer: Mt. Vernon 3, Columbus East 0: MV improved to 5-1 on the season with the victory. Mouhamed Kanate and Luke Fimreite scored to give the Marauders a 2-0 halftime edge. Konate scored his 14th goal of the season in the second half on an assist from C.J. Coleman. Corban Hartley had the shutout in goal.

MV next plays Saturday morning against Shelbyville.

New Palestine 2, Guerin Catholic 1: Wes Fox scored both Dragon goals in the second half to give NP a victory. Bryson Basaran and Ryan Perkins had the assists on the goals. It was Fox's second game-winning goal in a week. NP is now 4-1 on the year and next plays Tuesday at home against New Castle.


"We need to stay composed and play the entire game the way we know how," NP coach Bobby Holden said. "Tuesdays home game needs to be better. The boys will prepare and be ready to go hard next week."

Girls soccer: New Palestine 11, Yorktown 0: Maddie Fry had a three-goal hat trick and an assist to lead a Dragon explosion. Emilee Larson scored two goals. Alyssa Mouzin had a goal and an assist. Madison Parish, Lauren Kehrt, Kristin Wagner, Julie Langebartels and Lauren Joray also scored for the Dragons. Lindsay Meyer had three assists to raise her season total to a team-high eight. Kalli Shepler-Tucker also had three assists. Jen Roberts had two assists, while Morgan Parish, Morgan Carpenter and Jordan Barton all had assists for the Dragons. Holly Hilton had the shutout in net, making a save.

NP (5-0) plays this weekend in the Zionsville Invitational. The Dragons will face Brownsburg at 5 p.m. Friday at the Zionsville Youth Soccer Association fields (across from Zionsville West Middle School), Avon at 8 a.m. Saturday at Zionsville High School, and Westfield at 6:30 p.m. Saturday back at the ZYSA fields.

Boys tennis: New Palestine 4, Shelbyville 1: The Dragons went 3-0 on the week and improved to 6-2 on the season with an HHC victory. Reid Clark (7-5, 6-3) and Brent Barrett (6-1, 6-1) won at singles. At doubles, Evan Poole/Connor Swain won 6-3, 6-7(9), 6-3, while Kyle Willhelm and Pete Rusche won 6-2, 6-2.

NP's JV also won. The Dragons host University and Silver Creek beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Mt. Vernon 4, Yorktown 1: The Marauders got victories from Bryce Bobb (6-3, 6-4), Kendall Ryan (6-0, 6-0) and Corey Beck (6-0, 6-2), as well as No. 2 doubles Zak Weaver and Ben Bobb (6-2, 6-2) in an HHC victory. 

"Zak Weaver/Ben Bobb led the way tonight," MV coach Gabe Muterspaugh said. "Our #2 dubs finished it out tonight. No. 2 Kendall Ryan continues his stellar play and No. 3 Corey
Beck is becoming a solid point. No. 1 Bryce had an off night but still won."

Cross country: NP girls sweep, boys 2nd:The New Palestine girls cross country team scored 15 points Thursday, beating incomplete Rushville and Beech Grove teams. Emily Trimpe, Marissa Crosby and Natalie Shields finished 1-2-3 for NP. Kayla Medaris (fifth), Izzy Fleetwood (sixth) and Caroline Voelz (seventh) were NP's top five. Chloe Kirchner (eighth), Brianna Komornik (ninth) and Megan Laughlin (10th) also had top-10 finishes for the Dragons.

Seth Eagleson won the individual title for the Dragon boys, who fell to Rushville 23-46. Beech Grove had 53 points. Sam Jones finished ninth, Oliver Dockins 11th, Drew Gohmann 12th and Austin Dodd 13th for NP. 

Late Wednesday: Volleyball: Mt. Vernon 3, Knightstown 0: The Maruaders won 25-7, 25-15, 25-10 over Knightstown.
