Tuesday wrap: Marauder VB wins

Mt. Vernon had a convincing 3-set victory over Greenfield-Central in volleyball tonight, as the Marauders won 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 over the Cougars. Jenna Amundsen led the Marauders at the net. Thanks for listening: You can find the archive at www.hancockcountysports.com.


Delta 3, New Palestine 1: The Dragons fell to 3A No. 8 Delta in four games 25-17, 24-26, 26-24, 25-16. The Dragons moved to 11-4 on the season with the loss. Taylor Wright had 20 kills to lead Delta (14-7, 4-0 HHC). NP is now 2-1 in HHC play. 



Boys soccer
New Palestine 7, Greenwood 1: The Dragons got two goals from Dillon Pike and two assists from Ty Fidler in the victory. 

Ryan Perkins, Zach Chester and Matt Ernster all had a goal and an assist each for NP. Daniel Wright and Caleb Kramer scored goals for NP. 

NP coach Bobby Holden cited strong play by Corey Cavin and Austin Timmerman on defense, as well. NP is now 7-2 on the year. 

"Great sportsmanship by both teams," Holden said. "Enjoyable game to coach and I'm proud of all the players." 

NP's next game is Thursday at Greenfield-Central, which is tied with the Dragons atop the HHC. Join www.HancockCountySports.com for the pregame beginning at 6:30 p.m. 

Mt. Vernon 2, Hamilton Southeastern 2: Mouhamed Konate and Luke Fimreite scored goals for the Marauders as they tied HSE at home. MV is now 6-3-2 on the year and has tied back-to-back games. 

Konate's goal came off Eric Thompson's assist in the first half. Fimreite scored unassisted in the second half before HSE rallied to tie the game. Corban Hartley made five saves for MV. 

The game was a reunion of sorts, as HSE is led by former Mt. Vernon mentor Chris White, who was the head coach when current Marauder boss Aaron Britt was a player for the Marauders. 

Girls soccer
Mt. Vernon 4, Heritage Christian 0: The Marauders improved to 6-1-1 on the year with the shutout victory. Kristina Voltz had a three-goal hat trick, while Suzy DeWael also scored for the Marauders. Chelsea Thomas and Jordan Slusher had assists. 

Olivia Coleman had two saves for the shutout in net. 

Boys tennis
New Palestine 5, Tech 0: The Dragons won five straight-set matches in the victory, only dropping five games. Reid Clark won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and Connor Swain/Evan Poole won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. The rest of the team -- Brent Barrett, Stratton Smith and the No. 2 doubles team of Pete Rusche/Kyle Willhelm all won 6-0, 6-0. 

Shayan Khokhar's 6-0, 6-0 victory was the Dragons' lone JV match.

Mt. Vernon 5, Shelbyville 0: The Marauders came back from their close county runner-up finish with a strong 5-0 victory over Shelbyville. All five Marauders won in straight sets. Coach Gabe Muterspaugh said in a Twitter post that it was MV's best tennis of the year. 

Late Monday
Volleyball: Royals fall in 5: Eastern Hancock dropped a thrilling 5-game match to Seton Catholic, 13-25, 10-25, 25-19, 26-24, 17-15. Taylor Mercer led the Royals with seven kills, while Lauren Harmon and Elizabeth Carlton had six each. Mercer also had six aces, while Carlton had 16 digs. 

The Royals (5-10) will be featured Monday on HancockCountySports.com as they face Mt. Vernon. Airtime is approximately 7 p.m. 

Girls soccer: G-C 2, Greenwood 0: Emily Koers and Alli Frazier scored first-half goals for the Cougars, while Lauren Brand added an assist on Frazier's goal. Katie Peters had the shutout in net. G-C hosts New Palestine at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
