Saturday wrap

Boys tennis
On the second opportunity, the New Palestine boys tennis team won the county title today. The match was originally scheduled for Friday night, but postponed due to rain. The Dragons were able to take the title in the two-round event.

Boys soccer
Mt. Vernon 0, Lawrence Central 0: Mt. Vernon and Lawrence Central played to a scoreless tie in boys soccer this afternoon. Corban Hartley made six saves for the Marauders in the shutout. The Marauders are now 6-3-1 on the season and host Hamilton Southeastern Tuesday.

Greenfield-Central 1, Heritage Christian 0: Collin Kleckner notches his sixth shutout of the year and G-C improves to 6-2-1 with the road victory. G-C has now won back-to-back 1-0 games. The Cougars host Delta Tuesday and then face New Palestine Thursday, a match that will be broadcast on www.hancockcountysports.com.

Girls soccer
Mt. Vernon 1, Yorktown 0: Suzy DeWael scored in the second half to give the Marauders an HHC victory. MV is 5-1-1 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. Goalkeeper Olivia Coleman made six saves for the shutout.

Greenfield-Central 3, Heritage Christian 0: Emma Morgan had a goal and an assist for the Cougars, while Emily Koers and Lauren Brand also scored. Brand's first-half goal was the game-winner, while the other two came in the second half. Taylor Titus assisted on Koers' goal that made it 2-0.

Volleyball
Dragons 2nd at Greenwood: New Palestine beat Speedway and Arlington in matches that were strongly in NP's favor, before falling to a strong Greenwood team in the championship match of the Greenwood Invitational. NP is now 11-3 on the season. 


Cross country
Dragon girls win Whiteland Invitational: The New Palestine cross country team won the Whiteland Invitational Saturday morning -- the oldest regular-season CC meet in the state. NP had 40 points, 36 better than second-place Whiteland. Eleven teams competed in the event. Natalie Shields led the Dragons, finishing third in 20:37. Marissa Crosby finished fifth (21:29), Emily Trimpe 10th (21:45), Kayla Medarais 11th (21:49) and Izzy Fleetwood 14th (22:21). 


NP's boys finished fifth with 132 points. Greenwood won with 40. Seth Eagleson was the meet runner-up (16:47). Other scorers were Sam Jones (26th, 18:22), Oliver Dockins (32nd, 18:42), Drew Gohmann (36th, 18:53) and Zach Nagel (41st, 19:13). 


In the girls JV meet, NP's Brianna Komornik won the event with a 23:00 time.
