Soccer sectional pairings

The IHSAA released the pairings for the boys and girls soccer state tournaments tonight.

All three local county schools compete in the Class 2A sectional -- girls at New Palestine, boys at Greenfield-Central. The boys sectional features a wide-open field including two defending sectional champs -- Mt. Vernon and Shelbyville. Greenfield-Central and New Palestine, if they win out, can share the Hoosier Heritage Conference title. The intra-sectional matchups featured two shootouts and two one-goal games.

In the girls sectional, New Palestine enters as a team that is currently unbeaten -- 14-0-2 -- with one game to play. But Greenfield-Central and Mt. Vernon both played the Dragons to close games and are poised to make some waves in the tournament.

Boys sectional at Greenfield-Central
Wednesday, Oct. 5
5 p.m.: Greenfield-Central vs. Shelbyville
7 p.m.: New Palestine vs. Mt. Vernon
Saturday, Oct. 8
7 p.m.: Championship (broadcast on www.hancockcountysports.com)
Winner goes to: Mt. Vernon regional (semis 7 p.m. Oct. 13, will play Roncalli sectional winner -- Roncalli/Perry Meridian/Southport/Franklin Central; finals 7 p.m. Oct. 15)

Girls sectional at New Palestine
Thursday, Oct. 6
5 p.m.: Greenfield-Central vs. Mt. Vernon
7 p.m.: New Palestine vs. Shelbyville
Saturday, Oct. 8
5 p.m.: Championship
Winner goes to: Shelbyville regional (semis 5 p.m. Oct. 12 vs. Franklin sectional winner -- Franklin/Center Grove/Whiteland/Martinsville/Greenwood; championship Oct. 15).
