Tuesday wrap: NP girls tie Guerin

The New Palestine girls soccer team tied Guerin Catholic 0-0 Tuesday, finishing the team's second straight unbeaten regular season with a 14-0-3 record.

The three ties all came against top opponents -- Guerin Catholic, Avon and Westfield.

Holly Hilton made 10 saves in tonight's game for her state-leading 13th shutout of the season. She has a 0.28 GAA and has recorded nine consecutive shutouts.

The Dragons were outshot 10-6. They controlled the run of play in the first half, but Guerin had a territorial advantage for much of the second half. Lauren Joray, the Dragons' leading goal scorer, had five of New Palestine's six shots.

The Dragons will open the sectional at home Oct. 6 against Shelbyville.

Mt. Vernon 2, Greenwood 0: The Marauders' Suzy DeWael scored her ninth goal, while Jordan Slusher added a goal and an assist in a Marauder victory.

Holly Owens assisted on Slusher's goal. Whitney Estes made four saves in net to record the shutout. MV is 11-2-1 on the year.

Boys soccer
New Palestine 5, Rushville 2: The Dragons improved to 5-1 in HHC play and 10-5 overall with a big road victory.

The win put the Dragons in position to clinch at least a share of the HHC title in Thursday's Senior Night finale against Pendleton Heights.

Wes Fox scored a natural hat trick -- three consecutive goals -- and added an assist in the Dragons' victory. Fox's three first-half goals gave the Dragons a 3-0 lead. Rushville answered before halftime, but Ty Fidler and Noah Boilanger scored second-half goals to put the game away. Ryan Perkins assisted on Fox's first goal, while Fox assisted on Boilanger's goal.

"It was a great game," NP coach Bobby Holden said. "Both teams played very well and made for an enjoyable game."

The Dragons won the JV game 7-1.

Greenfield-Central 3, Shenandoah 2: The Cougars won the first two games, then put on an exclamation point in Game 5 for the victory. G-C won 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 24-26, 15-4 over the Raiders. Kirstyn Pierce had 17 kills for the Raiders.
