Tuesday roundup: Several intra-county matchups

Girls soccer
New Palestine 3, Mt. Vernon 0: The Dragon girls soccer team improved to 7-0-2 on the year and 2-0 in HHC play after beating Mt. Vernon.

Kalli Shepler-Tucker scored unassisted at the 34:08 mark to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Lauren Joray added two second-half goals -- her seventh and eighth of the year -- to make it 3-0. She scored unassisted at 42:28 and then again on Richelle Dennison's assist at 63:57.

The Dragons continue conference play Thursday at Rushville. The varsity game will be played at 5 p.m. (note: this is a change from previous schedules). The games against Franklin and Shelbyville will also be 5 p.m. varsity kickoffs.

Boys soccer
New Palestine 3, New Castle 0: The Dragons' boys soccer team blanked New Castle tonight at home. John Ernster had a goal and two assists for the Dragons. Wes Fox also had a goal and an assist.

Ernster's goal gave NP a 1-0 lead at halftime. He assisted on both second-half tallies -- the one by Fox and one by younger brother Matt Ernster.

Jaron Pridgen had the shutout in goal for the Dragons.

"We need to take control of games quicker," NP coach Bobby Holden said. "The game seemed to go on and on before we could gain control of it. Second half is sometimes too late to start playing and we need to keep that in mind. I'm happy about the win, but the boys know they can start better."

The Dragons are also home Thursday against conference foe Shelbyville. NPHS is 5-1 on the year and 1-0 in HHC play.

Volleyball
New Palestine 3, Eastern Hancock 0: The Dragons improved to 8-2 on the season with a three-game sweep of Eastern Hancock. NP won 25-10, 25-17, 25-14. Lauren Tieman had eight kills and seven blocks for the Dragons.

The NPHS JV also won 25-20, 25-22. They next play Wednesday at Lutheran.

Zionsville 3, Mt. Vernon 0: The Marauders fell 25-11, 25-18, 25-17 to the Eagles on Tuesday night.

Boys tennis
Mt. Vernon 4, Greenfield-Central 1: The Marauders picked up an intra-county victory ahead of Friday's county tournament -- which will take place at MV's courts at 4:30 p.m.
