Saturday wrap: NP/MV soccer teams win

Boys soccer
Mt. Vernon 2, Fishers 0: Big win for the Marauders as they improved to 9-3-3 on the season. Mouhamed Konate scored a goal and added an assist in the first half. Casey Coleman also scored for MV. Eric Thompson assisted on Konate's goal.

Corban Hartley made seven saves for the shutout in net for the Marauders. MV closes the regular season at home Tuesday against Hamilton Heights.

New Palestine 15, Delta 1: The Dragons put together a huge game against Delta, with some big offensive numbers.

Bryson Basaran scored 10 goals. Wes Fox added two goals and six assists. Brandt Basaran scored twice and added an assist. John Ernster had three assists. Dillon Pike scored the Dragons' other goal. Ty Fidler had two assists. Ryan Perkins, Daniel Wright and Noah Boilanger all had assists for the Dragons.

"The players that stepped on the field today showed great leadership and capitalized on many scoring opportunities," NP coach Bobby Holden said.

The Dragons improved to 5-1 in HHC play and are tied for the conference lead with one HHC game remaining, Thursday against Pendleton Heights. They are 9-5 overall.

Girls soccer
Mt. Vernon 2, Delta 1: MV improved to 10-2-1 with the victory. 

Kristina Voltz assisted on Suzy DeWael's first-half goal and then scored herself for the Marauders in the win.

The Marauders travel to Greenwood Tuesday and finish HHC play Thursday at Pendleton Heights.

New Palestine 2, Lawrence Central 0: The Dragons improved to 13-0-2 with a victory on the road. NP's two leading scorers on the year tallied goals for the Dragons. Kalli Shepler-Tucker started the scoring with 14:05 remaining in the first half with her 10th goal of the year. Lauren Joray scored her 11th goal eight minutes later. Lindsay Meyer assisted on both goals.

Holly Hilton recorded the shutout -- NP's 12th and her 11th in 15 games. The Dragons have allowed just four goals this year.

The Dragons outshot LC 13-3.

NP hosts Senior Night Monday against Shelbyville. A win will clinch an outright HHC title.

Volleyball
MV wins Cougar Challenge: Mt. Vernon won the Greenfield-Central Cougar Challenge today in volleyball.


G-C finished sixth of nine teams. The Cougars fell to Paoli 25-15, 26-24. The Cougars also dropped a 25-21, 20-25, 15-7 decision to Whiteland.

Girls golf
Cougars 11th at regional: Greenfield-Central finished 11th of 12 teams at today's regional at Smock Golf Course in Indianapolis. G-C shot a 430.

The Cougars were led by Kelsey Fisk's 88, finishing 17th overall. Jordan Dicken (109), Hannah Brown (113) and Ali Kern (120) also scored for the Cougars. Fisk missed advancing to the State Finals by four strokes.

Also playing as individuals were Mt. Vernon's Ellen Wuerch, who shot an 89 and Ellen Werner (104). Eastern Hancock's Hannah Boaz shot 100.  Carmel won the regional with a 321.
