Wednesday wrap: NP g-soccer wins again


The 15th-ranked New Palestine girls soccer team improved to 4-0 on the year and extended its regular-season unbeaten streak to 29 games with a 2-0 victory over Warren Central Wednesday night.

Lindsay Meyer scored her second goal of the season in the first half to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Lauren Kehrt added a second-half goal on an assist from Emilee Larson in the second.

Holly Hilton made eight saves in net for the shutout, the third straight posted by the Dragons.

NP next plays Thursday, Sept. 1 at Yorktown, beginning a four games in three days stretch that will continue with a trip to the Zionsville Tournament the following two days.

Boys tennis: The Dragons beat Greenfield-Central 4-1 to even their record at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in HHC play.

At No. 1 singles, Brent Barrett won 6-3, 6-0. Stratton Smith posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles. NP swept the doubles, with Reid Clark and Connor Swain winning 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1, while Kyle Willhelm and Evan Poole won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2.

NP next plays Thursday against Shenandoah.

Eastern Hancock 5, Shenandoah 0: The Royals beat Shenandoah 5-0 with vie straight-set wins.

At singles, Conner Kramer (7-5, 6-4), Kyle Kramer (6-1, 6-2) and Aaron Speas (6-0, 6-0) were all victor for the Royals. Caleb Wallen/Garrett Hammond won at No. 1 doubles (7-6(4), 6-2), while Kirby Petry/Danny Rash won at No. 2 doubles (6-2, 6-3).

Later Tuesday games
Boys soccer: Greenfield-Central 10, Greenwood 0: The Cougars scored eight in the first half to improve to 3-1-1 on the year. Trent Barnhart and Ross Morgan each had two goals and an assist, while Gabe Collins scored twice. Bobby Gabrielsen had a goal and two assists. Conner Shaw added three assists. Joe McClarnon, Michael Barber and Joe Hudson had a goal an d an assist each. Brent Poling also scored for G-C. Collin Kleckner had the shutout in net, making two saves.
