Saturday roundup: NP volleyball, MV tennis win invitationals

New Palestine's volleyball team won the Lawrence Central Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The Dragons beat Heritage Christian 25-14, 25-19; Lawrence Central 27-25, 25-18; and then Culver Academy 25-22, 25-19.

The three straight-set victories give the Dragons a 6-1 record on the season.

Katie Morris had 10 kills and three blocks on the day for New Palestine.

Boys tennis: Mt. Vernon won the Muncie Central Invitational, posting perfect 5-0 victories over both Jay County and Muncie Central. 

Boys soccer: Lawrence Central 2, New Palestine 1: Wes Fox -- who kicked a big field goal during the Dragons' football victory over Richmond earlier Saturday morning -- scored NP's goal. Bryson Basaran added the assist.


Freshman Brandt Basaran also had a strong game for the Dragons, according to coach Bobby Holden. NP is now 2-1 on the year.


"It was a long week for the boys, not all were able to play to their full potential," Holden said. "As soon as that game ended, we started focusing on the next.  That one is behind us now.  The Team is focused on what’s ahead and what we will do to get better."

Cross country: NP 4th/5th at Hokum Karum: The New Palestine boys cross country team competed in the Black/Gold Hokum Karum this Saturday and finished fifth of seven teams in the small school division. The Dragons were led by 8th place Seth Eagleson/Olivier Dockins, 19th place Sam Jones/Drew Gohmann, and 28th place Mitchell Lawson/Zach Nagel in the two-person relay format.
 
The New Palestine girls finished fourth of six teams.  The dragons were led by 8th place Emily Trimpe/Natalie Shields, 14th place Marissa Crosby/Izzy Fleetwood, 16th place Kayla Meadaris/Chloe Kirchner and and 19th place Caroline Voelz/Brianna Komornik.
