Thursday wrap: EH, NP win in volleyball

Volleyball
Eastern Hancock 3, Cambridge City Lincoln 2: For the second straight contest, the Royals put together a thrilling five-game win, beating CCL 25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 18-25, 18-16. Lauren Harmon had seven kills and Melissa Bedell six to lead the Royals. Jordian Eastes had 27 assists, seven aces and 10 digs. Elizabeth Carlton had five kills and 20 digs. Tori Bednarski (23 digs) and Hannah Best (19 digs) also helped lead EH's defense. The Royals are now 2-0. 

New Palestine 3, North Decatur 0: The Dragons' volleyball team improved to 2-0 with its second three-game sweep of an opponent. New Palestine beat North Decatur 25-11, 25-22, 25-11 Thursday night on the road. Lauren Tieman led the Dragons with eight kills and seven solo blocks.

NP's JV also won 25-12, 25-24 to go to 2-0 on the year as well.

Lawrence North 3, Mt. Vernon 0: The Marauders fell in a close match 25-21, 26-24, 25-19. MV had a couple of set points in the second game, but the host Wildcats rallied and pulled away in the third game for the three-set win. 

Boys tennis
New Palestine 5, Yorktown 0: The Dragons won their conference opener. NP won all five matches in straight sets. At singles, Brent Barrett (6-4, 6-1), Stratton Smith (7-6(5), 6-4) and Shayan Khokhar (6-4, 6-4) were all winners. Reid Clark and Connor Swain won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Evan Poole and Kyle Willhelm won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.


The Dragon JV won 5-4. NP's varsity is now 1-1 on the year, the JV is now 2-0.

Cross country
Dragons 2nd in 3-way: The Dragons finished second in two three-way meets with conference rivals. On the boys side, Pendleton Heights totaled 16 points, NP 55 and Shelbyville 60. NP's top boys were Drew Gohmann (10th), Oliver Dockins (11th), Sam Jones (12th), Zach Nagel (13th) and Seth Eagleson (14th).

On the girls side, PH won 15-50. Shelbyville was incomplete. Emily Trimpe led the Dragons by finishing ninth. Natalie Shields (10th), Chloe Kirchner (11th), Kayla Medaris (12th) and Izzy Fleetwood (13th) also scored for NP.

Girls soccer
Greenfield-Central 1, Franklin Central 0: On Wednesday, the Cougars got a first-half goal from Sammie McCoy and goalkeeper Katie Peters made it stand up with a shutout. Lauren Brand had the assist on the game's lone goal.
