Girls golf: Dragons 3rd in 3-way
New Palestine finished third in a three-way meet Monday at Southern Dunes. Cathedral won with a 163, Southport shot 187 and New Palestine 215.

Jaymie Jarecki led the Dragons with a 51. Michaela Merlau shot a 53, Abby Poole a 54 and Sarah Rose a 57.

The Dragons next compete in the Hancock County meet Tuesday at Arrowhead.

"It was a tough day," NP coach Gregg Greene said. "Several girls were ill and either missed the match or soldiered on tried to compete. The course was extremely challenging too. with lots of water and bunkers. They had also just dressed the greens so putting was made more difficult too.  It was one of those learning days when you see how mentally tough they are. I noticed that four out of the six girls finished their final couple of holes with birdies or at least pars after struggling most of the way. This indicates that they did not quit on their round. That is a good sign."
