Tuesday wrapup: NP, MV soccer teams win big

The New Palestine and Mt. Vernon boys soccer teams posted HUGE victories on Tuesday, heading into next Tuesday's showdown on the Marauders' home field. You can listen to the play-by-play of NP at MV on www.hancockcountysports.com.

The Dragons played their first full game of the season Tuesday and did so in grand style, beating Whiteland 8-0. NP scored six times in the first half and added two more in the second. Junior Bryson Basaran scored four goals. Senior John Ernster had two goals in the first half from his midfield position. Alex Thomas had three assists. Ryan Perkins had a goal and an assist. Zach Chester added a second-half goal. Daniel Wright and Ty Fidler both had assists. Fidler also had a strong game in the midfield.

Jaron Pridgen made three saves in net for the shutout, with center back Matt Ernster helping a strong defense.

"Rain or shine, the boys know they have to go hard every game," NP coach Bobby Holden said. "They did well today in the game."

The victory was Holden's first as the Dragons' head coach. The Dragons return home Thursday against Franklin.

Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon throttled Delta 12-0. Mouhamed Kanate had four first-half goals and added two assists. Adam Luke scored twice for the Marauders, while Kyle Cansler, Trevor Johnson, Luke Fimreite, C.J. Coleman, Cole Justus and Matt Powell all scored for MV. Johnson, Fimreite, Eric Thompson and Kyle Pruitt all had assists. Corban Hartley and Drew Kammerer combined on the shutout. MV is now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in HHC play. The Marauders visit Warren Central Thursday.

Volleyball
Mt. Vernon 3, Lapel 0: The Marauders rolled to a 25-15, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Lapel Tuesday night. MV moved to 5-1 on the season with the victory.
