Greenfield-Central's 200 freestyle relay team advanced to the second day of the IHSAA State Finals by placing 13th in the preliminary round Friday night.

That guarantees the Cougars will come home with points from the state meet. The team of Patrick Stutz, Bryan Forbes, James Young and Austin Wilburn beat their seed time by 76 hundredths of a second and came home in 1:27.62, placing 13th out of 32 teams.

That was the only local team to advance past Friday's state meet prelims.

G-C's 200 medley relay team of Forbes, Jon McCormick, Young and Wilburn had the only other top-20 finish in the county, finishing in 1:40.01, two-tenths of a second ahead of seed time.

Individually for the Cougars, Wilburn was 25th in the 50 free (22.12, .21 ahead of seed), Young 29th in the 100 butterfly (54.46), Forbes 29th in the 200 IM (2:01.66) and 31st in the 100 backstroke (57.58) and McCormick was 31st in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.50).

For New Palestine, the 200 free relay team of Jake Greig, Grant Gish, Sam Baker and Phil Webster finished 26th (1:30.36). The same quartet was 28th in the 400 free relay (3:20.37). Greig placed 31st in the 100 freestyle (48.75).
