Swim state tonight

The boys swimming State Finals begins tonight, and Hancock County will be well-represented.

Of course, a lot of that representation will be from Greenfield-Central, which is coming off its first sectional championship in 26 years.

G-C will have five student-athletes competing in seven different events, with senior Bryan Forbes competing in four (200 medley relay, 200 free relay, 200 IM, 100 backstroke) and junior James Young in three (200 MR, 200 FR, 100 butterfly). Junior Jon McCormick (200 MR, 100 breaststroke) and junior Austin Wilburn (200 MR, 200 FR) will compete in two events, while sophomore Patrick Stutz rounds out the 200 free relay.

New Palestine is represented by the 400 free relay team of freshman Grant Gish, senior Phil Webster, junior Jake Greig and junior Sam Baker and the 200 free relay team consisting of the same quartet, with Greig also competing in the 100 freestyle. The 200 free relay team finished second to G-C in the sectional, but advanced to state on time.

Mt. Vernon's David Cochran will also be competing in the event in diving.

The State Finals begins at 6 p.m. tonight at the IUPUI Natatorium with swimming prelims. Diving prelims are at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the finals and consolation finals in swimming at 1 p.m.
