Weekend hoops

Tuesday night marked the only mid-week girls game of the week, but there's plenty of hoops on tap for the weekend.

Friday night
Greenfield-Central at New Palestine (B/G doubleheader), 6 p.m. The Dragon and Cougar girls have played some great games over the last few years, including an overtime thriller last season. Meanwhile, the Dragon and Cougar boys played an OT game a year ago for the county title, and this is a game where the Cougars often play a strong game against their rivals. Listen to the broadcast with Andrew Smith, Chris Lambert and Greg Elkins live on HancockCountySports.com starting at 5:40 p.m. Friday.

Mt. Vernon at Pendleton Heights, 7:30 p.m. The Marauders play another Hall of Fame Classic team and Div. I recruit as they see Kellen Dunham and the Arabians in a big early conference game. MV hung with 4A No. 2 Hamilton Southeastern for a half before the Royals pulled away. Dunham, a Butler recruit, has been putting up some huge scoring numbers.
Northeastern at Eastern Hancock, 7:30 p.m.: The Royals begin a double-weekend against a 2-2 Northeastern club that's a potential sectional foe. EH is coming off a 61-49 victory over Southwestern (Shelby) last week.

Saturday
Sheridan at Eastern Hancock, 7:30 p.m.: Sheridan is opening its season this weekend, so we'll see what the Blackhawks have this year. This is the first of back-to-back double-weekends for EH.
GIRLS: Yorktown at Mt. Vernon, 12:30 p.m.: The Marauders have a 2-0 HHC record, but will be bouncing back from a loss to Anderson on Tuesday night. Yorktown is 3-3, having won two straight games under first-year coach Lendon Schwartz.  GIRLS: Shelbyville at New Palestine, 7:30 p.m.: The Dragons host their annual pink game for cancer research as they host the Golden Bears in a rematch of last year's sectional upset. It's also the back half of a big HHC weekend for the Dragons.

GIRLS: Chatard at Greenfield-Central, 7:30 p.m.: The Cougars host the second half of a back-to-back weekend against a 2-3 Trojan club led by Kevin Sweeney. G-C is now 4-3 and has won three straight games, and is playing well at the moment.
