Wednesday roundup

In softball, New Palestine gave head coach Ed Marcum his 200th career victory in a 6-1 road victory at Fishers. NP scored once in the third, twice in the fourth and three times in the sixth before Fishers tallied its lone run against Dragon starter Lizzie Garrison. NP (13-5) had 11 hits on the day. Garrison scattered six hits to get the pitching victory. NP returns home Thursday to face Chatard, and Friday for a doubleheader against Connersville.

Greenfield-Central rallied twice to tie the game in the late innings, but fell 5-4 to Lawrence Central as the Bears scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Tori Cuebas drove in three of the Cougars' runs with a single and a double. Brittany Hardwick had a couple of hits, while Kristen Wise doubled and had an RBI. G-C led 2-0 in the third, but LC scored three times in the fourth to take the lead. The Cougars tied the game in the fifth and seventh, but saw the Bears re-take the edge in the bottom of each inning. G-C is now 14-9 on the season.

Eastern Hancock also fell in a seventh-inning rally, as Elwood scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to stun the Royals 6-5. EH had scored once in the sixth and twice in the seventh to take a 5-4 edge before the Panthers' rally. Savannah Blevins doubled, homered and drove in four runs for the Royals (12-10). Taylor Mercer had a pair of hits.

In baseball, New Palestine's Brady Thomas hit a three-run homer in the third to break a scoreless deadlock and send the Dragons on to a 9-2 victory over Brebeuf. Thomas' blast to the deepest part of the park set the Dragons in motion -- they'd score once more in the third and thrice more in the fourth to build a 7-0 lead against the Braves' ace. Brian Clark threw a complete-game three-hitter for the victory. No. 2 NP is now 17-2 heading into the rest of the week. A road game at Connersville takes place Thursday before Friday's visit to Greenfield-Central. The doubleheader will begin at 5 p.m. and be broadcast LIVE. Click here to listen LIVE!
