Dragons on to semistate

New Palestine won its fourth straight softball regional title tonight, beating South Dearborn in a one-game regional.

The Dragons won 13-5, but trailed 3-1 going into the top of the sixth. NP scored seven times in the sixth, and then added five more in the seventh to put the game away.

Audrey East was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Erin Lehman was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Clare Myers was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Lizzie Garrison had a double and two RBI. Markie Wood and Katie Prosser scored twice and drove in two.

Garrison also scattered 10 hits and allowed five earned runs in the pitching victory.

The 11th-ranked Dragons advance to Saturday's Jasper semistate, where they will meet old tournament rival No. 8 Gibson Southern -- a school NP faced in the 2003 and 2004 State Finals. First pitch is 11 a.m. No. 4 Roncalli will face No. 10 Edgewood in the other semifinal. Title game is slated for 7 p.m.
