MV #1 in girls poll

Mt. Vernon is No. 1 in the ICGSA Class 3A girls basketball poll. The Marauders are ahead of Benton Central, Norwell and Evansville Memorial.

Two MV opponents are in the 3A top 10 -- Rushville (No. 5, tied with Edgewood) and Hamilton Heights (No. 9). MV will compete in the Hall of Fame Classic on Dec. 29, facing 4A No. 1 Penn in the opening round. 4A No. 9 Roncalli and 3A No. 3 Norwell will also be part of the tournament field.

A couple of other area teams on local schools' schedules -- Warren Central (4A No. 8) and Triton Central (2A No. 9) are in the rankings.

MV is also No. 8 overall in the IBCA poll released Monday.
