GBB tonight: Cougars, Marauders win big

Greenfield-Central beat Shelbyville 53-39 in girls hoops tonight, evening the Cougars' record at 3-3.

LaRae Cruz scored 16 points for G-C, including 14 in the opening 8:30 of the game. She hit four 3-pointers in that stretch, the last three of which helped spur a 17-2 Cougar run that turned a 9-7 deficit into a 24-11 lead midway through the second. G-C outscored Shelbyville 16-5 in the second to take a 34-14 lead at the half, pushed it to 40-16 early in the third and led by as many as 25 before Shelbyville made a bit of a run late in the game.

Cruz led the way for the Cougars. Freshman Shelby Oldham scored 10. Katie Peters added nine points for the Cougars. Emily Koers & Sara Jones both scored seven.

Shelby's Chelsey Skipton scored 21 points to lead all scorers.

G-C is now 3-3 and 1-1 in HHC play. Shelby is 2-3 and 0-2 in the HHC. G-C next plays Saturday at Rushville, with a 1:30 p.m. varsity start.
