Tuesday roundup

Baseball
New Palestine's baseball team posted an 18-8 victory over Eastern Hancock in five innings. The Royals led 3-2 midway through the third, but the Dragons put together an 11-run third inning -- capped by Nick Smith's three-run homer -- and added five more in the fifth to end the game. Brian Page was the winning pitcher in relief for the Dragons (1-0). Smith had three hits and four RBI to lead an 11-hit Dragon attack. NP is next in action today against Knightstown. The Dragons open conference play Friday at Pendleton Heights. EH travels to Southwestern (Shelby) today.

Mt. Vernon fell to Fishers 11-8 in an offensive game. Both teams scored in five of their seven at-bats, but the Tigers never trailed after plating four runs in the first and adding four more in the fourth. Troy Montgomery led MV with a single, double, homer, walk, stolen base, two runs and three RBI. Logan Perdue had a pair of hits and scored twice. The Marauders (0-1) are next in action today at North Central. They open conference play Friday at home against Delta.

Softball
Greenfield-Central beat Warren Central 8-1. Tori Cuebas was 3-for-4 with a homerun and five RBI to lead a potent Cougar attack. Ashley Brunk had three hits and scored two runs, Sami Frazier had a pair of hits and scored twice. Frazier pitched five innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven, to get the win for G-C (2-0). The Cougars next play Thursday against Connersville.

Whiteland rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat New Palestine 3-2. Erin Lehman led the Dragon attack with a single, a double, a walk and a run scored. Audrey East had a double and an RBI. The Dragons (1-1) play their home opener today against Franklin Central.
