Tuesday night: Royals now 7-1

Eastern Hancock had a nip-and-tuck battle with Blue River tonight, but the Royals began pulling away midway through the fourth and made a couple of huge defensive stops late when the Vikings started to come back. The Royals won 80-73, with Dustin Smith again playing huge down the stretch and several other players contributing big, as well.

The Royals are now 7-1 on the year heading into their Dec. 29 county tourney matchup at New Palestine.

In girls basketball, Greenfield-Central won its second straight game, beating Connersville 45-43, surviving a last-second 3-point attempt by the Spartans. G-C is now 5-6 heading into its Dec. 29 county tourney matchup against 3A No. 1 Mt. Vernon.

EH's girls fell to 1-9 on the year after a 58-25 loss to Cambridge City Lincoln. Like their male counterparts, the Royals' next game will be at New Palestine (4-5) on Dec. 29.

On Wednesday night, New Palestine hosts Beech Grove in boys basketball. The Dragons are 2-4, having just come off a victory over Morristown last Friday night.
