Good night for two Hancock County girls programs, as Mt. Vernon and New Palestine both win conference games to set up their showdown on Thursday.

3A No. 1 MV beat Yorktown -- a team that narrowly missed being in the top 10 -- 54-26 on the road today. The Marauders are now 8-0 on the year and 3-0 in conference play heading into Thursday's matchup.

New Palestine used a big third quarter to beat Shelbyville 55-38. Danielle Owens had 18 points and eight rebounds, while Bethany Murrell scored 14 and grabbed 11 boards for the Dragons. NP is now 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the HHC.

Greenfield-Central also played tonight, falling to Chatard 46-40 on the road. The Cougars are now 3-6, with a Tuesday visit to Richmond looming.

Tonight was a rare off-night for all four Hancock County boys basketball teams. They all resume action on the road next Friday. Our Game of the Week will feature Eastern Hancock at Knightstown. Also playing Friday are Greenfield-Central (at Yorktown), New Palestine (at Morristown) and Mt. Vernon (at Shelbyville).
