It's Cougars vs. Arabians

Greenfield-Central pulls the upset tonight, beating New Palestine 7-0, with the Cougar defense setting the tone early. NP was held to 17 total yards in the first half, while the Cougars were able to make three big plays on one drive -- QB Carl Ellison with a 10-yard scramble on third-and-9, a 20-yard pass to Tyler Colclazier on third-and-11, and a 17-yard TD run by Matt Dickerson -- to go up 7-0 with 1:06 to go in the first.

G-C's defense made it stand up. NP had two first-half first downs. While NP took some control in the second half -- the Dragons outgained G-C 127-21 -- NP was never able to get into the end zone, the biggest play being when Jeremiah Wray recovered a Dragon fumbled snap at the G-C 13 yard line late in the third. NP had two more forays into G-C territory in the fourth, but was unable to score.

The Dragons finish with a 9-2 record and the HHC championship. G-C, now 7-4, moves on to face an 8-3 Pendleton Heights team at Cougar Stadium next week. PH beat New Castle 49-7 tonight to advance to the sectional final.

Jim Ryan and I will broadcast the Cougar-Arabian sectional final game next week, starting at 6:30 p.m.
