Congrats to MV soccer

Congratulations to Mt. Vernon's boys soccer team, winning the New Palestine sectional by beating Greenfield-Central 3-0.

Caleb Young scored 10:35 into the game, and then Eric Ahonen (on a free kick) and Alex Sayre added two second-half goals four minutes apart, while Nathan Livengood made five saves to preserve the shutout.

Coach Aaron Britt's team is 13-3-2, and broke a school record for shutouts with 13 (and posted its fifth straight) Sunday. They have T-shirts that say "NGP" -- No Goal Patrol -- and they've lived up to it.

MV beat Warren Central 2-0 in the morning, while G-C upset once-beaten New Palestine 1-0 in the other semifinal, breaking the Dragons' streak of four straight sectionals.

MV plays Shelbyville in Wednesday's Rushville regional semifinal.

Also, this week, the girls soccer sectional and cross country sectional will take place.
