Marauders win regional title

Second verse, same as the first.

In the morning semifinal, Mt. Vernon held Lebanon without a field goal for the first 7:50 en route to building a double-digit first-quarter lead and cruising to a 20-point victory. In the second game, the Marauders had a similar start, jumping ahead of No. 10 Edgewood and holding the Mustangs without a field goal for the entire first quarter en route to a 56-38 victory.

MV led Edgewood 15-2 after a quarter, built it to 30-15 by halftime despite batting foul trouble, and continued to extend the lead through the rest of the game.

The Marauders won their first regional championship since 2005 and improved to 22-5 on the season. All five of their tournament victories have been by at least 20 points.

Jessica Brown led MV with 17 points, while Rachel Houck added 16 -- 34 for the day -- and Makenzi Reasor scored 12.

The Marauders will play Madison (18-7) in next week's semistate. The time & location will be announced Sunday. We will pass it along as soon as we know it, and we'll broadcast the game live at HancockCountySports.com!
