New Palestine suffered an upset tonight in girls basketball, as the Dragons fell to Shelbyville 56-52. NP fell behind by 10 early, but rallied to take a four-point lead late in the third quarter. NP was outscored 10-4 in the final eight minutes.
Bethany Murrell led NP with 13 points. Tori Stephenson and Emily Curry added nine, Abby Seifert scored eight first-half points and led the Dragons in rebounding.
NP finishes the year 10-10. Shelby moves on to face No. 5 Hamilton Heights at 7:30 p.m. Friday, after No. 2 Mt. Vernon faces No. 9 Rushville.
Wednesday night, Eastern Hancock opens sectional play vs. Knightstown at Centerville
